Pain Patient Compliance Protocol and Scale

The Pulido Coates Pain Patient Compliance Protocol and Scale (“PPCP-S”) has been administered to approximately 3,200 chronic non malignant pain patients receiving opioid medication toward the assessment of the patient’s compliance with the prescribing physician’s plan of care. The PPCP-S is designed to assist prescribing practitioners and ancillary staff to determine if the patient understands the severe limitations required in the prescribing of opioid medications, maintenance of treatment plan compliance in all aspects of the prescribing agreement between the patient and prescriber. Particular attention is given to the dangers of non-compliance by means of diversion, polypharmacy, illegal drug use, or addictive behaviors. The course outlines several interventions available within the licensed pain management clinic milieu, and a course of patient interventions.
This course demonstrates reimbursement methods of payments and documentation requirements. It is an excellent addition to midlevel practitioners’ strategies for patient compliance and one’s own licensure protection in the controversial arena of pain management. The proper administration of the PPCP-S universally has been recognized in clinical practice as an effort to demonstrate “intent to comply” as a practitioner.
